11/11/2007 1:14 AM Alert

Good Day  all Forum readers. At 11 o'clock on this 11th day  of November, We invite you to Share with Us, 2 minutes of Silence in Honour of our Veterans.

"On November 11, 1999 Terry Kelly (the singer of this tribute) was in a store in Nova Scotia, Canada. At 10:55 AM an announcement came over the store's PA asking customers who would still be on the premises at 11:00 AM to give two minutes of silence in respect to the veterans who have sacrificed so much for us.

When eleven o'clock arrived on that day, an announcement was again made asking for the "two minutes of silence" to commence. All customers, with the exception of a man who was accompanied by his young child, showed their respect.

Terry's anger towards the father for trying to engage the store's clerk in conversation and for setting a bad example for his child was later channeled into "A Pittance of Time".

At 11:00am on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, the guns fell silent on the Western Front and World War 1, The Great War, the war to End All Wars, ended after more than four years of fighting.

And so it is at 11am on 11 November we pause to remember the sacrifice.Take two minutes, would you mind? It's a pittance of time, For the boys and the girls who went over. In peace may they rest, may we never  forget why they died. It's a pittance of time.

Thanks for posting this. A lot of people forget about Veterans Day. We so often forget the sacrifices of others and take our own daily lives for granted. We wouldn't have the freedoms we have today without the brave men and women who have served and are in our Armed Services today.

It's a good day to be sober

Thank you Skye. This is one of the most heart touching tributes I have seen. I watched it last year with my 2 boys right at 11:00 am and was moved by it as much as I am today.

My heart aches for all the loss and suffering people all the over the world have gone thru because of wars.

Many have not been our wars but our troops are proud to go and peace keep.

God bless them all.

That was absolutely beautiful.  My grandfather fought in Korea. My brother went to Kuwait.  It has been close to home what these soldiers do for us.  We must never forget to tell them how much we appreciate their sacrifices for us.

love and hugs,

chelle
