I know what our tradition states about outside issues. That being said I know I should not comment on what I found the other day while looking to see if this realm had a myspace but say something I will.
I have been in AA for over 5 years now and have yet to see the cloaks or candles nor anything else that resembles a cult or any behaviour that would lead one to believe or think this is a cult. Yet there it was a site devoted to labelling AA a cult and goes asa far to say that this is not a disease! But only a habit in living that can be changed and altered. What? I mean WHAT!?
Perhaps it is about change but it took far more than some words to change this alcoholic. I scimmed over this site, reading bits and peices. Perhaps there is a little to it but my final thought was. OH all you have to do is buy my book and read it. With that and some theraphy you can overcome your "drinking problem"
That site discribes my irrational recovery before coming into AA and yes I bought some books (Alcoholics Anonymous and Twelve Steps and Twelve Tradition to name only a few) But AA has worked for this alcoholic like nothing else ever has and it doesn't matter if I have money to put in the basket or not. What we give was freely given to us. I wonder how that site would survive as we have if it gave away all it's "sound" advice?
I had better practice restaint of pen now before I say too much and have to make an ammends to that site.
