There were a lot of things I used to do for sober fun. There were a bunch of us that ran together... ran to meetings, movies, sledding, horseback riding...
After my back injury I had to give up a lot of things. I have to admit that I let this tale me down. I though more of what I could not do rather than what I could.
Today I work with a lot of kids. With some of the I do the geek thing and we play fantasy role playing games (D&D type stuff). It started out as a way to tech one of them some basic math and problem solving but it became a lot more. For some of the kids it became more. It became an alternative to hanging out and getting in trouble and it gave them an adult (sort of) male to talk to and discuss life and all the stuff of growing up with. Some of these kids are in collage but when winter/spring/summer break come the dice still roll.
On my own I write and do some artwork and I'm always making sawdust (home projects). When it comes to cooking I'm somewhere between and artist and a mad scientist.
I have fun with my critters 5 cats (we lost one this spring ) and a German Shepard that gets confused as to if she is a dog, a cat or a person.
One thing that has been a big boon to me is finding you guys. The meetings and recovery is great but the fun and fellowship is tremendous.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood.
