Ok, I can appreciate the chat can be access by the head admin (or whoever it is) as it helped resolve a misunderstanding between myday and Gkathy, but what about confidentiality?

I go to the womyn's meeting, and we are told (and asked) that was is said in there stays in there, that it is a safe place to share.  After seeing that the chat transcripts can be accessed after the fact, makes me even less inclined to share and makes the rooms even feel less safe.

Ma'iinganikwe (burned too many times to risk it anymore)

Thank you for your comments, we appreciate your concern.

All "professional level" chat rooms, such as DigiChat, AddOnChat, FlashChat, and ParaChat to name a few, provide the owners with access to chat transcripts, for Administrative and legal purposes. This feature is not unique to Recovery Realm.

On the bottom of each and every Recovery Realm ©™ web page you will find information regarding  our "Terms of Use" and our "Privacy Statement".

Recovery Realm is commited to protecting your privacy, anonimity and to developing a community that gives you the most powerful and safe online experience. We make no apologies on our stance.

Chat transcripts are not freely accessable by the members of Recovery Realm. Administrative members and "trusted servants" of Recovery Realm may  however access any  transcipt inorder to gain clarity on an event and thereby resolve any issues that may  arise and affect our site's health and  growth.

There can be no ongoing online recovery without some degree of moderation, if only to kill off the hardcore trolls. It takes rather more moderation than that to create a healthy, civil online recovery community.

If you want that to happen, you have to give of yourself. Merely providing this space but not tending the conversation is like expecting that your front yard will automatically turn itself into a garden.

In short NO-  Recovery Realm  does not make IP addresses public.

Generally speaking, its hard to get someones IP address from a chatroom or message forum unless the site allows public access to IP addresses.

To get someones IP you need to have a direct connection from your computer to theirs. For example when sending a song or image file to their computer. You can not get the IP after a post was  made and the person  has logged off. You must be specifically "hunting" a target at the very  time they are online.
There are other ways to access IP addresses such as asking an administrator or  owner of the site who would have access to the administrative controls that log personal information
Hope this answers your question.

I learned early on that when you hang your laundry outside to dry; everyone in the neighborhood is going to know the color of your under ware. So be careful what you say. That holds true, anytime a group of people meet; in any forum. If I am going to label something personal as “confidential;” then it’s up to “me” to make sure it stays confidential. I can always find someone that’s a good soundboard. That’s what sponsorship is for, or even better ; a friend. I always remember that spiritual axiom……that when I am disturbed I’m the problem. Not the person sittin next to me , not the person across the room. I am the only one responsible for how I feel today. A little commonsense goes a long way.

It’s also important that we grow a thick skin and a good filtering system. It’s pointed out in the BB that being over sensitive is a character handicap. (pg. 48, pg.125). ((and its just human nature that we tend to be a wee bit oversensitive at times))

Because I know how to apply the tools that are offered in recovery......I don’t have to let anyone rent space in my head today.
