Hi my name is Allison and I am trying to start a live meeting of SMA in Indiana, specifically in Indianapolis. I am a member of Al-Anon who needs help and continued sobriety from self-mutilation, and while I deeply appreciate forums and blogs, I feel I get so much more out of seeing people face-to-face. Is there anyone else out there looking for a meeting nearby? Also, does anyone have experience going to AA? I have considered doing this but am not sure if they would tolerate a mutilator rather than an alcoholic considering tradition 3. Any insight would be helpful. Thank you all!

Hi Allison... Unfortunately, the AA meetings I have been to frown upon discussion of other issues unless it directly related to alcohol. There are some meetings out their that do deal with dual diagnosis' issues. Maybe that would be a place to start. There are several people here who could also give you helpful tips. There are 3 woman's meetings here on Realm and we discuss all issues women are dealing with. The addiction does not matter. I wish you all the best and will add you to my prayers. ...Suz

hey it might help for you to get in touch with the people that do SMA meetings on other cities. you can get there contact adresses on the SMA website. www://selfmutilatorsanonymous.org you can get in touch with Apple via the email adress for the website and she can gve you all the readings and format you need to run a meeting. in the meen time you can pop along and see how we get on online. the times days and sites for online SMA meetings are listed on the website. about tradtion three, we are all recovering. doesnt really matter what from. maybe you can use that as some kind of loop hole.

What do Recovery Realm and a rubber duck have in common? They both keep you company when you're getting clean.

Hello Allison- I live in the southern Indiana region about an hour and a half from Indianapolis. I could possibly attend SMA meetings up there on a semi-regular basis. I am an active SMA online meeting member and chair person and would love to have a SMA meeting to go near by. I do attend another support meeting but it is not directly SI topic related. Have you considered coming to a live chat SMA meetings until you get your f2f off the ground? Please let me know how things progress Nicole
