11/08/2007 1:49 AM Alert

I am new to the boards. I am currently attempting to recover from an addiction to narcotics, mainly opiates. I went to an outpatient rehab 2 years ago after being arrested for selling drugs. At the time I was trying to support my ecstacy addiction. After that I met a man whom I spent the last two years with, and the two of us developed an Oxycontin and heroin "habit" together, which I thought was somewhat under control until we broke up and I tried to quit. Turns out it's not gonna be so easy. I developed a physical AND mental addiction, for the first time in my life. I have been quite sick since stopping, and I want to use all the time. I needed some support outside of myself, and I live in a small town with no NA meetings or anything of the sort. I found that outpatient rehabs usually only serve as a place to meet new contacts, and that atmosphere will just make it easier and more tempting for me to use. So I found this place instead, and I am hoping that I will meet people on here who can help me to stay strong and get my life back. Anyway, just wanted to pop in and introduce myself. Don't know what else to say now, so I guess that's my cue to stop typing lol.

Welcome Home!

You'll find a lot of support here for your recovery. Many of us have been where you are in one way of another.

Join us in our chat rooms and meetings, share in the suport, love, understanding (and fun) that is here.

As to face to face meetings... if you can not find a NA (or CA) meeting feel free to go to open meetings of AA and talk to some of the peopole there (some folk could get upset if you went to a 'closed' AA meeting which is supposed to be for alcoholics only). I can almost garuntee some of the people in AA have also had problems with drugs as well as alcohol. With them you might be able to build the real world support you will need.

Anothe idea. If there are no NA meetings where you are why not ask the treatment center to help start some?

What I am recovering is my life!

Phoenix - I too m a recovering addict, cocaine waas my drug of choice and yes I can relte to the ohysical and mental aspects of withdrawl and recovery. First and foremost - FIND a support group. I live in a town of less then 1000 people and if you are willing to look as hard for a group or recovery contact as we are when looking for a dealer when we need a fix - YOU WILL find one. In the meantime - attend as many online meetings and forums as you can and avoid anything you know triggers your cravings and desire to use. It will pass, minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day, it does get better in time and I can promise you one thing, a returning addict will get worse fast so even your worst day clean will be better then your best day high.
