I'm a new member who may not be working this site right. 

I am 2 weeks out of   in patient and am presently attending intensicve out patient where we have group meetings and a lecture, a total of 3 hours a day mon-thur. next week is my last.

i am going to aa meetings but am not comfortable with the sponsor thing. i have a temp whom i have yet to call. i just read a lot, just not sure if its a totaly necessary to have a sponsor.

i have been sober 24days and have not yet considered a drink although the trigers are ever present. i just have not planned anything.

Glad you are here. I look forward to seeing you in chat and in the meetings. As far as your question about the sponsor, in my opinion it is necessary. But that is my opinion. I've had three since I've been in AA. Without their help I would have never been able to complete my step work and most likely would be drunk today. 

It is a choice you have to make for yourself.

I agree with Larry -- I think a sponsor is necessary to guide you through the steps.  If you're not comfortable with your present sponsor, keep going to meetings and when you find someone who has the quality of sobriety you want, ask them to be your sponsor.
