Our philosophy here at Recovery Realm is to provide a safe, comfortable environment for people to share their recovery.
However, just as in offline AA rooms, there are times when an irritating person comes into the online chat room. This person may be irritating to a few, or to many. Some chatters may have had bad experiences in the past with this person, but others may not know the history.
It is much easier to ignore such an individual online than it is face to face -- we have the redline feature. Using the redline in chat will prevent you (and only you) from seeing what the irritating person is saying. If the person is annoying you in private chat, alert a monitor. Redline will also prevent the person from sending you a private message.
Generally speaking, this type of person wants to become the center of attention. If ignored, he/she will usually just go away.
We do not "boot" people from the chat room based on their personality (or lack thereof), nor do we "boot" people just because one of our chatters doesn't get along with him/her. However, excessive foul language, religious or racial prejudice will not be tolerated.
I would ask everyone to remember that we try to practice the principles of tolerance and acceptance online and offline. Sometimes that means we may have to tolerate someone we don't like in order to provide an example to a newcomer.
