I'm not sure if it's the cold weather, or the end of the holidays, but it seems that some people are starting to lose their stride. As I was sitting at my sons baseball pactice I was reading my Living Sober book and came across a chapter that stuck out in my mind. Chapter 16. But it was the last paragraph that stayed with me.....
We have found we can enjoy, sober, every good thing we enjoyed while drinking,---and many, many more. It takes a little practice, but the rewards more than make up for the effort. To do so is not selfish, but self-protective. Unless we cherish our own recovery, we cannot survive to become unselfish, ethical, and socially responsible people.
To me this means we need to look out for what is best for us and it will be worth it, it will be rough, but it will pay off. So even though its dark right now the sun will be shinning tomorrow. So stop and smell the flowers, go watch a ball game, even the local teams are great, go for a walk, read a book, visit a neighbor, or just watch the sun set, or rise. Spring is on its way and wonderful things are happening all around us, enjoy your life.
