When you get what you want in your struggle for self and the world makes you king for a day.

Just go to a mirror and look at yourself and see what THAT man has to say.

For it isn't your father or mother or wife whose judgement upon you must pass. The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life is the one staring back from the glass.

Some people might think you're a straight-shootin chum and call you a wonderful guy.

But the man in the glass says you're only a bum if you can't look him straight in the eye.

He's the fellow to please never mind all the rest, for he's with you clear to the end and you've past your most dangerous test,  if the guy in the glass is your friend.

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years and get pats on the back as you pass. But your final reward will be heartache and tears if you've cheated the man in the glass.

Thanks Larry -- I've carried a copy of this in my wallet for over 20 years --- long before I got sober. I didn't always live up to it, but it has always meant a lot to me.

Thank you Larry!

I love this. Some time back I knew a man. His name was Mac McCormick. An old Navy drunk. Got sober here in Roanoke and spent many a 24 hours carrying the message. I used to sit beside him at the meetings here at St Regis. He always had a smile and a kind thing to say about everybody.

Mac spoke for the last time Dec of 05. When he closed he read this and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. He came to love that man in the glass and Carol he too carried a copy of it in his wallet.

Mac died of cancer before he ever spoke again. I sat with him in the nursing home the week he passed and we read grapevine stories and laughed and joked. When I was about to leave I bent down and thanked him for sharing what he had with me. He thanked me for allowing him another chance to watch a man get sober. That was the last time I saw Mac and his smile.

Someday Mac will come and tell me it is my time to chair that meeting. I will do that with a smile, untill then I will smile every time I read or hear this and think of Mac with joy. I wnat nothing more in life but to have what he had.

Thank you again for the smile and the memory Larry

Namaste.   Glenn H

Thanks Larry,, I have heard this read out at quite a few meetings. It gets to my heart everytime.

Most days I can look at myself in that mirror and with the wonderful people I have surrounding me.. I learn more and more everyday how to grow.
