This morning I was at my home group meeting. The topics were "guilt and self pity"
One of the members spoke on how she felt guilt was one of the most useless and destructive feelings there are.
The next member asked to speak. He had a certainly different take on guilt. He likened it to a stone in our shoe. We feel it,, it's nagging and we can do one of 2 things. One is ignore it,,,,,,let it cause a sore,, fester and get infection and maybe lose a foot. The second is to remove the stone. In AA we have been given tools to know what to do. There is guilt from the past that we get rid of with the steps. During our sober life, if we feel guilt , we can look at it. Is it something that we have no control over, that is it just something that really has nothing to do with us? Or is it our gauge to tell us that we need to look at our actions,,,, say sorry and make amends? Deal with it and be done.
Deal with guilt,,, get rid of it and don't carry the big load of stones on your back either.
