Its a big con i mean lets be honest addiction is NOT a disease if it is that means all other kinds of addictive BEHAVIOUR are diseases lets see smoking, gambling, drinking coffee (lol) and even sex !! There is absolutly NO evidence Or any single gene for addiction NONE the only people who promote the disease CONCEPT/THEORY are the rehabs i wonder why that is hmmmmm you guessed it MONEY !! Any DECENT doctor therapist will laugh at your disease theory.....But anyways one of my points was about the steps lets see you get told that if you agnostic/athiest you can utilise a group as your higher power....Ok heres the problem so if you use a group of drunks so to speak as your HP then please explain how in the 4th edition of the BB pg 60 it states human power COULD NOT relieve your alcoholism yet the minute you use the AA group as human power hey presto its ok LOL LOL please somebody help me out here??Oh by the way for anybody whos gunna fire any atacks at me YES i tried AA for long time YES i had  a sponser YES i worked the steps (whatever that means??) YES i USED to believe it was a disease and YES i am still sober over 2 years now and guess what....I did it nobody else I stayed away from alcohol I resisted the urge to drink YES It was ME ME ME ME lol your probably gunna tell me thats a symptom of my disease Self centeredness ya know the ISM I Self Me lol lol ......Oh well happy days folks and please if you are gunna reply lets have a good discusion on the matter instead of Your not a real alki because i,m sure my doctors records and personal records would say different and please no personal attacks i,m all for constructive critism even if its aimed at me but no below the belt attacks

First off, congratulations on your ongoing sobriety.

I do beg to differ with your opinions though. I believe the American Medical Association also differs with you, as they recognize alcoholism as a disease as well.

I don't see anywhere on this board where people came and attacked your views? I'm not sure why you are here attacking the views of others?

Please, feel free to share your story. It would be appreciated, however, if you cease in attacking the beliefs and sobriety of others.

Good luck on your continued success in sobriety.

Thanks for your imput gkathy.First off i,m not attacking anybody in any shape i,m plainly bringing FACTS to the table the FACTS been alcoholism is NOT a disease its a disfunctional behavioural problem i.e its maladaptive..I reason i wrote please no attacking to me is because i have found ijn the past any post in which is not agreed on by the 12 step community ends in attack like critisms....Ie you dont have this disease your not a real alkie (whatever that means) but like i say i do welcome constructive critism....The AMA boy oh boy we could write a whole article on them from when they have cases of them getting done for blackmail and fraud. Also the AMA is only made up of 20% doctors the other 80% ar front groups for rehabs etc etc so of course there gunna say its a disease but unfortunatly theyre is absoluty NO evidence to state its a disease just theorys and concepts..Also the same AMA used to have you believe homosexuality was a disease and that smoking was actually good for you lol...The disease theory was established by the AMA giving out handout questionaires to AA memebers and basing there results on what the AA members wrote LOL i can provid any supporting evidence if needed..Thanyou for your words of encouragement unfortuantly i dont do my past testimoanies any more as i dont find anything constructive in bringing up my past...Once you hav heard on drunkalogue youve heard them all all i,ll say is that at the age of 26 i was verging cirrosis of the liver so that should indicate how bad i got....Once again many thanks and please feel free to bring some other subjects to the table ....

Congradualtions on your sobriety and I wish you the best of luck for the coming yrs. I'm  not going to argue or critize about your theory or opinions, I'm not a Dr. I'm not even sure how the disease concept works myself. I can tell you this, I tried every single way possible to quit drinking and none of them worked. I was completely lost when I got to AA, but I was willing to try the suggested tips and way of life they offered. My Higher Power was non exstistent, I used my group as my HP, as a group they were doing something that I could not do. They believed in themselves, in a HP, and this HP was keeping them sober. Maybe it could do the same for me. My group did not have to be the same people just the same time and day, just be there when i needed them, and they were. The real alchololic therory, is nonsense to me, also. No one can tell you that you are or are not a real alkie. You will know, when you are ready. Even if people tell you that you are, you wont listen. To some people just saying no works, some AA works...some people can drink like gentlemen. No matter what works for me or the next guy or girl, no one should stand in their way of a life of sobriety or happiness just because they dont believe in a program. I'm glad that your program works for you, but don't piss in some one else's cherrios just because you can. Enjoy your sobriety!! And let us enjoy ours!!

And if you have if been to court or treatment of any kind, they will all ways recommend you follow up with AA!! There must be something to a program thats been around for over 70 yrs.

Hi Mantie,Thanks for you encouragement and thanks for your imput.Just a few things first one been i arnt pissing on some ones cherios i,m all for people getting there lives in order really i am.....However i do beleive people need to hear the truth and the truth been you dont need a program to stay sober all you need is the will and dertimantion to stay sober and sort out your life.....Well done for getting yourself cleaned up i would argue the fact it had anything to do with AA i would believe that this time you had finally had enough of your lifestyle and decided to cleanhouse so to speak....It could be argued that if you walked round the park at your time of quiting walking round parks is the solution to alcohlism....(do you get were i,m coming from) Basicly you could apply anything to how you quit but the real reason is the fact that due to the shitty lifestyle one leads in active addiction that was the driving force behind motivating yourself to quit......However if you do genuinely believe AA and the steps saved you then fair play nothing i can say would change you belief yet its not my intenions to change your beliefs its just my intention to bring real truths to the table in the way of facts....All the best in your new found life and once again many thanks for your imput and encouragement on the matter..

Said it perfectly.... AA will be here if you need kind people and friendships... Take what you want and leave the rest.. No one would attack you for your views.

First off, congratulations on your ongoing sobriety.
